The search for test results that can be useful during or shortly after a physician/patient consult has long been the goal of healthcare providers and the testing industry, and was a notable focus of the largest meeting of lab professionals and IVD firms this year. This is according to healthcare market research firm Kalorama Information. The firm said scores of companies with point of care testing (POCT) offerings or related supplies and software were at the American Association for Clinical Chemistry Meeting in San Diego, CA.
"Recent developments in nucleic acid POC technology and in fluidics, costs, more skilled manufacturing all have combined to make a more convincing case for these technologies," said Bruce Carlson, Publisher of Kalorama Information, who was at the meeting. "Significant IVD vendors have launched systems."
